ISA-95 was developed with
the purpose of integrating Enterprise
and Control systems. Enterprises use this standard to prepare and realize
integration projects. It is less well known that the ISA models and terminology
can also be used to analyze manufacturing companies. The Ordina
ISA-95 & MES competence centre developed an approach for the analysis of
the AS-IS and the TO-BE situation, based on ISA-95. This approach has been
applied for several clients (e.g. Johnson & Johnson, AKZO Nobel, Philips,
Abbott laboratories) with different objectives. E.g. one end user client needed
to list the current automation systems and platforms and compare the situation
of several sites. Another had to develop a URS for an enterprise wide tracking
and tracing system (so comparison of the requirements of several plants was
needed). A third company aimed at developing an MES automation strategy for the
coming five years; here the ISA-95 models where used as a basis for an
interview program. The ISA-95 analysis approach is suitable in all these and
more-situations.
