ISA-88 Part 1
gives the foundation for making Batch. The majority of functionality in use of
ISA-88 has been guided and directed by the Control Systems Suppliers way of
interpretation and implementation of the standard.
This paper
focuses on the Batch functionality provided in the Batch software packages and
compares this to what is actually included in (or what was actually the
intention of) ISA-88. The paper will highlight the mayor similarities and
outstanding functions but also the shortcomings and lack of functionality both
in the Batch software packages and the ISA-88 standard itself.
Based on the
author 15+ years of experience in making real Batch applications in the Biotech
& Pharmaceutical industries, the need for enhancements and clarifications
of both the ISA-88 standard as well as the Batch software packages
functionality in order to enable Batch practitioners to meet the Process
requirements and to enable building Batch applications even simpler and easier
will be described by use of Process examples.
