The existence of the
Make2Pack effort, also know as S88, part 5, is well known. However, the
intension behind and benefits of this standard seems to be well understood only
by a select group. The goal of this presentation is to put the Make2Pack (S88
part 5) effort into a perspective that allows a listener who is unfamiliar with
the Make2Pack work to see where the Make2Pack effort has its place in an
overall automation environment that covers bulk production (making), and
secondary filling and packaging (packing) with automation systems at all levels
including instrumentation, basic control, supervisory control, manufacturing
execution systems and interface to ERP systems.
The presentation will show
at a high level how Make2Pack together with other standards enables a coherent,
yet flexible automation structure that allows true enterprise to shop floor
integration over the entire manufacturing chain while lowering the cost of
ownership.
